Ο κατάλογος του Σεπτέμβρη μου φάνηκε πολύ καλός. Πρώτα απ'όλα περιλαμβάνει μια νέα δουλειά του μοναδικού Richard Corben, μια νέα προσθήκη στη βιβλιοθήκη του Παπιανθρώπου από την Fantagraphics, καθώς επίσης και την επανακυκλοφόρηση των κλασικών πλέον κόμικς του Rick Geary σε μια πιο χορταστική και οικονομικά συμφέρουσα έκδοση.
Η IDW προσφέρει το Judge Dredd: The Complete Brian Bolland και εγώ χαίρομαι που συνεχίζεται ο καταιγισμός από τόμους που συλλέγουν το σύνολο του έργου συγκεκριμένων καλλιτεχνών από εξαιρετικά μακρόβιες ανθολογίες-περιοδικά κόμικς.
Όσον αφορά στο Ozymandias #4, που σας προτείνω στη συνέχεια, θα ήθελα να αναφέρω, έτσι "for the record", ότι με αφήνει παγερά αδιάφορο το στόρυ του συγκεκριμένου κόμικ ως prequel του Watchmen... Πιστεύω ότι κινήσεις σαν αυτή της DC, που προσπαθεί να "αρμέξει την χρυσή αγελάδα", έχουν κοστίσει πολύ στην εικόνα που έχει ο περισσότερος κόσμος για τα κόμικς. Αυτό βέβαια δεν πάει να πει ότι το Ozymandias και οι υπόλοιπες παρόμοιες μίνι-σειρές δεν μπορούν να είναι καλά κόμικς... Την συγκεκριμένη σειρά σας την προτείνω καθαρά και μόνο για το artwork του Jae Lee.
Έχω πάθει ένα μικρό κόλλημα τον τελευταίο καιρό τόσο με τις δουλειές του Lee όσο και του Frazer Irving. Αυτό που μου κάνει ιδιαίτερη εντύπωση και για τους δύο είναι ότι ποτέ δεν ξέρω αν θα μου αρέσει μια νέα τους δουλειά... Δεν μπορώ να είμαι σίγουρος για το πόσο καλό θα είναι το τελικό αποτέλεσμα καθώς εξαρτάται σε πολύ μεγάλο βαθμό από το χρωματισμό και τα μελάνια, ενώ στην περίπτωση του Irving ακόμη και από το σενάριο. Σκοπεύω να κάνω μικρά αφιερώματα και στους δύο καλλιτέχνες και να σας δείξω με παραδείγματα για τι πράγμα μιλάω...

The third volume of Fantagraphics’ reprinting of Carl Barks’s classic Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge work, like the previous volume Uncle Scrooge: Only a Poor Old Man, focuses on the early 1950s, universally considered one of Barks’s very peak periods.
Originally published in 1951, "A Christmas for Shacktown" is one of Barks's masterpieces: A rare 32-pager that stays within the confines of Duckburg, featuring a storyline in which the Duck family works hard to raise money to throw a Christmas party for the poor children of the city’s slums (depicted by Barks with surprisingly Dickensian grittiness), and climaxing in one of the most memorable images Barks ever created, the terrifying bottomless pit that swallows up all of Scrooge's money.
But there's lots more gold to be found in this volume (literally), which features both the "The Golden Helmet" (a quest off the coast of Labrador for a relic that might grant the finder ownership of America, reducing more than one cast member to a state of Gollum-like covetousness) while "The Gilded Man" features a hunt for a rare stamp in South America — two more of Barks's thrilling full-length adventure stories.

Basil Wolverton is one of the greatest, most idiosyncratic talents in comic book history. Though he is best known for his humorous grotesqueries in MAD magazine, it is his science-fiction character Spacehawk that Wolverton fans have most often demanded be collected. The wait is over, as Spacehawk features every story from Spacehawk’s intergalactic debut in 1940 to his final, Nazi-crushing adventure in 1942.
Spacehawk is the closest thing to a colorfully-costumed, conventional action hero Wolverton ever created, yet the strip is infused with Wolverton’s quintessential weirdness: controlled, organic artwork of strangely repulsive aliens and monsters and bizarre planets, and stories of gruesome retribution that bring to mind Wolverton’s peer, Fletcher Hanks. Για όσους δεν το γνωρίζουν ήδη, η Diamond Comic Distributors είναι ο μεγαλύτερος προμηθευτής (χονδρέμπορας) των εξειδικευμένων καταστημάτων με κόμικς στα αγγλικά. Μέσα από τον κατάλογο Previews της εν λόγω εταιρείας, τα καταστήματα λιανικής έχουν τη δυνατότητα να προπαραγγείλουν προιόντα που θα κυκλοφορήσουν στην αγορά δύο μήνες αργότερα (σε ορισμένες περιπτώσεις μπορεί και παραπάνω). Ο κατάλογος έχει συνήθως γύρω στις 400 σελίδες και συνοδεύεται από έναν δεύτερο κατάλογο 100 σελίδων αποκλειστικά για τα προϊόντα της Marvel Comics.
Οποιοδήποτε ελληνικό κατάστημα με κόμικς κι αν επισκεφθείτε (δείτε τη λίστα στα δεξιά), θα μπορέσετε είτε να αγοράσετε το συγκεκριμένο κατάλογο (5 ευρώ περίπου) είτε να τον ξεφυλλίσετε στο κατάστημα, και αν βρείτε κάτι που σας ενδιαφέρει να το παραγγείλετε.
Εάν δεν θέλετε να αγοράσετε τον κατάλογο μπορείτε να επισκεφτείτε το comicbreak.com και να τον κατεβάσετε σε μορφή PDF! Αν και νομίζω ότι είναι "πειρατικό" σκανάρισμα, δεν θεωρώ επιλήψιμη πράξη το "κατέβασμά" του, καθώς σε τελική ανάλυση τα χρήματά σας θα στηρίξουν τόσο τους καλλιτέχνες όσο και τις εκδοτικές εταιρείες εφόσον αγοράζετε τα κόμικς τους...
